We made it to Japan!!! Our first stop off the plane was the hotel, but they weren't ready to check us in, so we got as pretty as we could in the hotel restroom and hit the town to grab ramen at a place called Afuri in Harijuku:

Bellies full of soup, we shopped around a bit in Omotesando and then made our way back to the hotel to check in and take a nap. Once we were recharged, we headed to Star Bar in Ginza for a drink with Igor and Julie (our friends from the US who just happen to be in Japan at the same time as us)!!!

My camera was on "sunset" mode, so it looked really red in the bar :( |
After drinks made of strawberries, pears and gin, we parted from Igor and Julie for dinner at Sushi Iwa. It was really unbelievable. We had the Omakase and (a lot of) sake:

It turns out - and this is NO joke - the chef here lived in San Mateo when he was a teen with his family before moving to Japan 20 years ago! We were totally blown away. He even remembered the grocery store we live near, Piazzas!! So crazy.
Exhausted and ready for bed, we headed back to the hotel, excited for tomorrow - we're meeting up with Julie and Igor again to shop for kitchen knives and to check out the electronics district. Hope everyone at home is having a lovely few days off!!!
